About Me
I was born and raised in Portland and have always loved the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I tailor my care to support healthy living in our unique climate. I specialize in the treatment of chronic, complex conditions of pain and neuropathy; autoimmune, respiratory and digestive issues; and nervous system tension and mental-emotional complaints.
I came to acupuncture and Chinese herbalism through my own search for support with chronic pain and illnesses, which were considered “sub-clinical” by western medicine. This classification means the discomfort and symptoms didn't show up on lab tests, and available treatment options failed to address the underlying problem. The positive results I experienced after turning to acupuncture inspired me to dedicate myself to studying and practicing this medicine to help others.
In acupuncture, I found a modality of healthcare that can confidently assess and assist patients like myself, who have been unsatisfied with the options presented by conventional medicine, or want to move beyond symptom reduction to address the root cause of illness. In my practice, I utilize acupuncture and herbalism as tools to address patterns of seemingly unrelated symptoms through a unified approach, providing long-term relief and a sense of wellbeing for every stage of your journey to lasting health.
I live in town with my wife, our two children and cat. We enjoy hiking, playing bocce and having picnics.
Past and Continuing Education
I completed an MA in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, and completed my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbalism at NUNM, the National University of Natural Medicine here in Portland, Oregon. My Doctoral thesis examined the human and ecological health effects of changing climate through the lens of the classical Chinese climate health system of Wuyun Liuqi.
In addition, I am a student of Worsley Five Element Acupuncture, having completed a hands-on two year program under the guidance of Worsley Institute President David Berkshire. I also study herbalism under Heiner Fruehauf, the founder of NUNM’s Chinese Medicine Program. Since 2017, I have studied the BaZi, a system similar to astrology, and offer natal chart readings. I have also spent the past decade practicing Yoga, Qigong and Taiji, and offer instruction in the Jin Jing Gong lineage of Qigong.
